The Salesforce Marketing Cloud plugin adds SMS and WhatsApp as Journey Builder activities. Journeys are built exactly as they are today; OneXtel handles delivery, and message reports land in data extensions inside your own Marketing Cloud instance. Because delivery status is returned as a journey activity rather than only as a report, you can branch on it — checking whether WhatsApp delivered and falling back to SMS in the same journey.

Scope

Journey Builder activities

Four activities: Send SMS, Send WhatsApp, Check DLR SMS, and Check DLR WhatsApp.

Multiple accounts

Add multiple SMS and WhatsApp credentials and pick the account per activity.

Reports in data extensions

Delivery and inbound data is written to data extensions under Contact Builder.

Channel fallback

Branch on delivery status with a decision split to retry a failed message on another channel.

Supported message types

Setup

You need your Marketing Cloud MID (account ID), shown in the top-right corner of the SFMC interface, and the connector base URL, which OneXtel provides during onboarding. Both appear in the URLs below as {MID} and {connectorBaseUrl}.
1

Deploy the reports data extensions

Go to Dashboard → Package Manager → Deployment, upload the JSON file supplied by OneXtel, and click Done. This creates the data extensions that carry message and delivery data from OneXtel into your instance.
2

Create an installed package

Go to Dashboard → Profile → Setup → Apps → Installed Packages → New. Enter a name and description, then save.Open the package and choose Add Component → API Integration → Server-to-Server, with these scopes:Save, then copy the generated Client ID and Client Secret and store them securely.
3

Add the Marketing Cloud App component

In the same installed package, choose Add Component → Marketing Cloud App. Enter a name and description, and set the login endpoint URL to:
Save.
4

Add the Journey Builder activities

In the same installed package, choose Add Component → Journey Builder Activity and create these four, saving after each:
5

Configure the OneXtel app

Go to Dashboard → AppExchange → Your App → App Setup and enter the API credentials from step 2: Client ID, Client Secret, Auth Base URL, REST Base URL, and JWT Signing Secret.
6

Add channel credentials

Under SMS Configuration and WhatsApp Configuration, add your OneXtel API keys. Each generates a DLR URL — copy it and register it as the delivery callback in OneXtel. For WhatsApp, also copy the inbound URL and configure it in your OneXtel account.

Build a journey

1

Set the entry source

In Journey Builder, select the data extension that supplies your audience.
2

Add a send activity

Drag in Send SMS or Send WhatsApp and set the activity name, the account, and the phone field from the entry source attributes. Select your template and map any variables from the dropdown. For WhatsApp you can add a media header and body text with variables, map variables in the header, body, or buttons, enter a media URL for media headers, and set an expiry date for LTO templates. Quick Reply buttons take a payload; Copy Code buttons take a code value. Carousel cards are configured card by card, each with its own header, body, and buttons.
3

Add a DLR check

Drag in Check DLR SMS or Check DLR WhatsApp, name it, select the account, and point it at the send activity whose status you want to read.
4

Wait before checking

Insert a wait of at least two minutes before each DLR activity. Checking sooner returns an incomplete status.
5

Branch on the result

Add a decision split after the DLR activity and configure paths from the out-arguments it returns. This is how you route failed messages to another channel.
6

Activate

Click Activate. The journey begins executing and messages start sending.
Without a wait of two minutes or more before a DLR activity, the delivery status will not have settled and your decision splits will branch on incomplete data.

Viewing reports

Delivery and inbound data is written to data extensions under Audience Builder → Contact Builder → Data Extensions:

Requirements

  • A Marketing Cloud instance with Journey Builder, Package Manager, and Contact Builder access.
  • A OneXtel account with SMS and/or WhatsApp enabled.
  • Approved templates in OneXtel.
  • The reports data extension JSON and the connector base URL, both supplied by OneXtel.

Limitations

  • SMS and WhatsApp only. RCS is not yet available on this plugin — see Coming soon.
  • A reports and dashboard module is in development. Until it ships, delivery data is read from the data extensions directly rather than through a built-in dashboard.
  • DLR is a polled activity, not a push. Status is read when the journey reaches the DLR activity, so a contact’s status is only as current as the last check.
